Unique Punishment for Traffic Violation in Chikkamagaluru

Chikkamagaluru, March 17: In a unique case from Kadur taluk, the court has awarded a community service punishment instead of a fine or jail term to a man who repeatedly violated traffic rules.

Case Background

Basavaraj (also referred to as Ranjith in some reports), a resident of Bisilehalli village, was booked by the police for multiple traffic violations.

When he appeared before the court and admitted his mistake, the judge decided to impose an alternative punishment.

Court’s Order

As per the court’s directive, the accused must:

• Stand at Maravanji Circle in Kadur town

• From 10 AM to 5 PM on March 17

• Holding a placard with awareness messages on traffic rules

The aim is to create awareness among the public and discourage others from committing similar offenses.

Monitoring by Police

The court has also directed that a police officer be deployed to ensure the punishment is carried out properly.

A report must be submitted to the court after completion of the assigned duty.

The incident has sparked discussion among locals, many of whom praised the innovative punishment.
